“When I’m painting, I need to think in terms of paint” said Claude Monet.
Painters require an understanding of the materiality of paint. It is through the physical properties of our colours that we can create depth and density in our painting.
We also need to explore the psychological properties of colour so we can be authentic in our colour choices, and form relationships that give our work an emotional quality.
By playing with the different kinds of contrasts, we can shift space forward and back in our painting, creating distance, movement, and stronger composition.
In this intensive, hands-on Colour Workshop, we will learn a little from each of these important fields through a series of exercises that can be developed into your painting practice. With plenty of historical and contemporary references, a healthy sense of fun, and plenty of brilliant colour, this workshop will be an amazing experience for painters at every level.

Full Booked - Brush Techniques: which brush for what and why?

Every mark tells a story, and there’s a da Vinci Brush for every kind of mark.
Painting techniques rely on the suitability of the brush, from a scumble to wet-on-wet, a line to a wash, yet with so many brush shapes available and in so many different fibres, it can be difficult to select the right brush to achieve the paint application you want.
Join artist Evan Woodruffe as he demonstrates what different brush shapes were developed for, and how they’re used today. Perhaps more important than shape is the composition of the brush head, which has a direct corelation to painting technique. The fibre length and even the handle length also affect your painting. Evan will cover the brush care essential for your brush to last many years, even with plenty of use.
You will have the opportunity to try a wide selection of da Vinci Artist Brushes during the demonstration.
